I am renting an apt with red-violet carpeting, please help!?
ok so my husband and i have been renting this apt for about 6 months and i have been trying to go with the flow. However, i don't want to go with that color flow but need help trying to take the focus of the floor. Does anyone have any ideas on which color schemes to go with? We have a sofa which we love and bought it about five months ago it is a dark chocolate color beautiful so i want to use the sofa as the " inspiration piece" . any ideas?
Spilled milk on carpet, big crusty spot?
While I was away, my husband spilled an ENTIRE bowl of cereal onto the carpet. He tried to clean it up, but now there's a huge crusty spot about the size of a soccer ball It doesn't smell, thank goodness. How do I go about getting the crustiness out?
Lead testing for installing carpet?
I live in a 75 year Indiana house, went to order carpet but they told me that they will have to do a 'lead test' first. Does any one know why?Down to original wood floor with no paint no carpeting, baseboards and trim will not be removed. Can I quote this or can I get a copy of law?
Was i right about the carpet under the wooden floor?
well i went to my boyfriends mum and dads and they was laying wooden floor down in there living room, but i noticed they still had the carpet under it. i told them that it was a bad idea because if you spill a drink it will go under the little cracks in the floor and the carpet will soak it up and the wooden floor will be pressing up againts it and the floor will swell up. he just looked at me as if i was thick and goes stop talking nonsence...well today my daughter was round there house and she spilt water all over the floor, they moped it up. and the next day i had a phone call off of my boyfiends dad asking my boyfriend to go round to take the flooring up because the floor is ruined.so was my theroy right, or could something else of happendalso what are the reasons you shouldnt put carpet under wooden flooring?or is it usually ok to?
Would you say as a general rule - light walls/ dark carpet, dark walls/ light carpet?
AND....your carpet determines the colour of your walls. your personal views welcome lolNo my bedding is there to fit in with the decor not the other way around I always start with the carpet and wall colours then furnish to match up and I have already done it so ... Furthermore if you buy decent quality carpet and good underlay and actually vacuum it, it keeps looking good for years.saaanen I hope you decorate as well as you talk lol
How can I remove motor oil from my beige carpet?

How do I go about replacing carpet (some wet) in my room in the basement? Call a professional or do myself?
My bedroom in the basement is fully covered in carpet, and I mean FULLY ceiling, walls, floor, and even inside the closet. Recently, there's been water leaking and coming through to my room and it made a corner soaking wet. The water's not coming from the ceiling and is most likely coming from the bathroom, which is next to the bedroom. I want to remove ALL the carpet, fix the wet problem and put up new walls and carpet. What is the best way for me to do it? Should I call a professional and let them handle all the work? Or should I do it myself and save some money? I honestly wouldn't even know how to do any of it though.
Question about laying a carpet ?
hi , iv just moved into my own place and am clueless with these kinds of things ok i have just a plain floor with the black council tilesi want to a lay carpet would i need to put carpet underlay down and then carpet grippers then place the carpet down ? is underlay a must as i am on a very tight budget ?no nasty comments pleasewould laminate underlay work instead of carpet underlay ?
How to get rid of old stains on a carpet?
These stains are from dog urine. When our puppy peed we used paper towel to soak up as much of it as we could but there were times that we didn't catch it and it probably seeped in a little further, which I'm aware of. But these once small stains were made bigger by trying to use another method of cleaning them. Now they're more visible than ever and nobody likes looking at them. They're right in front of the door, also. Most of them aren't significantly dark in color but a small area is. Long story short, are there any " miracle" products that could remove lighten the stain and help put off having to get new carpet for this room for longer? And if not a specific store brand product, are there natural remedies and mixtures? Help is extremely appreciated. Also, odor is no issue.
How do I get dried Barbecue Sauce out of carpet?
I just found dried barbeque sauce on my carpet, the same width as a baseball so it's big, i think its been there for a few months unknowingly, I have not tried to get it out yet and am wondering if there is anything I can do to clean it? It looks like a bunch of dried bubblegum. will i just have to cut out the stain and replace the carpet with a patch?
Fly problem....Will shampooing carpets help?
I think it's my city or something because it seems like everyone is having a fly problem. Almost every store is sold out of the sticky paper. I've seen people buying several cans of flying insect spray as well. Of course we have to have the problem as well. I have about 7 little flies hovering over an arch way between my living room and dinning room. I have cleaned the arch way with every chemical I have in my house. I have removed all live plants, cleaned out the trash cans and haven't been keeping trash in the cans longer than a day. I'm at a last resort now to get rid of these suckers once and for all. Do you think if I scrub my carpets it will help? I have a machine that cleans and sucks up the water. Help me please I clean my house. I vacuum very often. I'm surprised there aren't holes in my carpets from how much we vacuum. We had the carpets professionally cleaned about 2 years ago. I'd like to do it again but our budget doesn't allow it right now.

Bought a new house with my husband... Suggestions on what to use to clean the carpets?
It's an old house 100 years , but the carpet appears reasonably new. However, there is reddish, rust colored powder on the carpet in some of the rooms probably dirt tracked in when the guy selling it was remodeling a bit.So does anybody know a good way to clean all of the carpets in the house? It's not a huge house, but it's not tiny either... I'd just like an affordable way to deep clean all of the carpets that actually works. I have a 15 month old who plays on the floor, so it needs to really be clean.All answers appreciated
